Happy  new year, everybody!

2015 was an exciting year for us. We completed the redesign of our website so it would be easier for you, our readers, to navigate. In our quest to remain current on online marketing, we became certified in Inbound Marketing through Hubspot. This improved our ability to write compelling content that attracts, converts, closes, and delights your customers.

This was also the year we became certified in Social Media Marketing Management through the Social Media Manager School. The course of study included an overview of all of the major social media platforms and how to effectively create and manage social campaigns for increased lead generation. We joined the Social Media Marketing Society this year which provides us with ongoing weekly training on changes in the world of social media marketing.

In this week’s post, we focus on what will be hot in the online marketing world for 2016.  You can also revisit some of our most popular posts from 2015 that contain information to help your 2016 marketing endeavors.

Get More Solid Leads in 2016

In 2016, Facebook will continue to be a main player in the world of social media.  Watch for the rollout of Facebook Live – a way to livestream right on Facebook.  Move over Periscope and Blab! Social media will still matter in getting your marketing message out there, but paid ads will be the norm if you wish to reach more people.  Did you know that Facebook has its its Instant Articles product that allows businesses to blog and advertise on it.  Information is consumed and experienced through Facebook’s mobile apps.

Livestreaming – both video and audio as it happens – will be big this year. I’ve used Blab which enables you to sign up through Twitter.  It allows you to have a live audience with up to 4 people showing on the screen at one time.  You can post about your upcoming Blab on Twitter, and record it for future reference.   It’s another way to build relationships, establish your expertise,  and market your brand. Periscope and Meercat are two more livestreaming apps out there right now.  You sign up through Twitter to use them. Pericscope appears to be easier to use.

Video marketing will continue its popularity as a viable tool for lead generation.  In fact according to Invoto, an online marketing  firm, by 2017, video is expected to take up 74% of consumer Internet traffic.  People online are looking to break away from reading text and will watch engaging videos that educate. In fact, just using the word “video” in an email subject line will boost your open rate by 19% according to ReelSEO, a video marketing compnay.

Of course, life wouldn’t be normal without the ever-changing Google search algorithms. As of this writing, Google is favoring longer content that explains something complex. Regular blogging, article writing, white papers, e-books all increase your expertise in the eyes of Google.

Online marketing can be overwhelming – there are so many venues to broadcast your message.  My advice is to investigate what appeals to your nice client and use those avenues to get more leads. Narrow it down to two social media sites where your client spends time.  Think about your clients’ lifestyles.  Would they be more likely to watch a video or read a blog post you wrote?  Consider your time as well.  What marketing stragegies can you sucessfully do without neglecting your everyday business responsibilities? Maybe it’s time to delegate your marketing to a marketing professional.  Have you set aside part of your budget for marketing expenses?  According to the Small Business Administration, you should be setting aside 7 to 8% of your projected gross income for marketing to effectively operate a business.
